MAKE YOUR WEB PAGES SEARCH ENGINE FRIENDLY

Making your web pages search engine friendly is very important. How do people find my website? This is a very serious question.

A KPMG survey found that the most frequent method of finding a site was via word of mouth, next was search engines and directories.

To make your web pages search engine friendly, you should do the following:

1. Title bar
Each web page has a title that is visible on the title bar of a web browser. Search engines display your website based on the words in the title bar. It is good to use keyword in your title bar. These keywords should relate to what your web page is talking about example a bookshop talking about books. Categorize the books e.g. Books/programming.

2. Descriptive paragraph
Search engines ask that you should provide a descriptive paragraph of twenty-five to forty-five words.

My advice is for you to create a list of all the keywords that describe your product or service. From the keyword list, you can write a paragraph that uses as many as these keywords as possible.

3. Meta-fields
At the top of every web page there are hidden tags called Meta tags, which carry information about the page. These are used to send keywords and description to search engines. Some search engines use Meta names.
An example of what a Meta tag look like.

<Head>
<title tag>Place the title of your web page here<\title>
<Meta name = "keywords" content = "keywords that describes your product or services">
<Meta name="Description" Content = "This is where you place the descriptive words describing your product or services.</Head>
Example a website that deals with car spare parts.
Keywords = "Car spare parts, car parts" etc.
Description: "we sell car spare parts."

4. Opening paragraph
Certain search engines search the opening page of the website for keywords. A descriptive opening paragraph help visitors know where they have landed and help search engines to identify your web page.

5. Classification
During search engines submission; certain search engines will require you to classify your business. They usually provide you with a series of pull down menus that you can use to describe your company. Therefore, always make sure that your web pages are classified.
